Island, IS - Volcano Choir
I’m not sure how I’m just finding out about this now, but Volcano Choir’s Unmap is one of 2009’s best albums of the year (even though I’m finding out about them in 2010). Composed of members from Bon Iver and Collection of Colonies of Bees, the album is on the experimental side of things, but some songs have haunting rhythms and the vocals are on par with Vernon’s other endeavors. I used to wonder what Pele would sound like if they had vocals, and I always came to the conclusion that it would ruin their music, but Volcano Choir has changed my mind.
